welcome

cameron mackinnonCameron Mackinnon was born on May 20, 1987. Cameron is a graduate of La Quinta High School, class of 2005.

For as long as we can remember Cameron always had a skateboard, snowboard, or a surfboard hugged under his arm. On Saturday, September 9, 2006 a dive into the ocean changed everything. Just before diving into the water, a strong current pushed his feet backwards which lead to Cameron hitting his head in a shallow part of the ocean. Cameron broke his neck on impact. Unable to move, his friends quickly pulled him out of the water and waited for help to arrive. Cameron was diagnosed as a quadriplegic, his injury; C5 Incomplete. Doctor’s didn’t know if he would walk again.

Directly after the accident, Cameron was only able to move a couple of fingers. Upon completion of his therapy this year in Loma Linda, it was concluded that there were no further services available for him because of his rapid progress. Cameron’s mobility has improved immensely. He is now able to walk with the assistance of a walker during his therapy, Which brings us to the present.

In early January 2008, Cameron relocated to San Diego to attend Project Walk. Project Walk is an extensive physical therapy program for people with spinal cord injuries who have a goal of full recovery. Cameron’s therapy is extremely beneficial but also very costly, Which brings us to the purpose of this letter. We are organizing a golf tournament on Saturday, April 19th, 2008 in order to raise money to help Cameron and his recovery. We are currently soliciting donations from area businesses as well as private parties for raffle items and/or monetary donations. Anything you can donate will help Cameron directly.
