Other Experiences
My resume includes positions that pertain to software and business. But I've had numerous other professional and non-professional experiences that contribute to who I am. That is the goal of this page - to include the items that don't always get included on my resume, so that you can get a fuller picture of my skills, interests, and pastimes.Farm Staff
This past fall, I worked for 2 months on an organic vegetable farm in Markham, ON. Driven by a desire to learn about sustainable agriculture practices, I helped a small-scale, production-focused farm with harvesting, washing, processing, and selling 30+ varieties of vegetables. This experience solidified my commitment to eating local and sustainable produce (and to potentially growing some of my own in the future).
Tree Planter
In the midst of the pandemic, I headed West to plant trees in Northern BC. The hours were long, the conditions were severe, and the work was excruciating; it was the hardest work I've ever done. But living in the forest with a great group of people is an experience I'll never forget. Towards the end of the season, I was planting over 3000 trees per day, which roughly equals 1 tree every 6 seconds.
Varsity Athlete
I played on the Queen's Varsity Soccer Team for the first three years of my undergraduate degree. Balancing a varsity sport with a demanding engineering program was no small feat - I spent 25-30 hours per week at practice, in meetings, or on road trips. In my third year, I was given the privilege of being named the team's captain. I was hoping to continue playing for five years, but I sadly had to cut my career short as I suffered a handful of concussions. I continue to play soccer to this day, albeit more recreationally than before.
